Saudi Arabia achieved a major milestone by winning the WAICY 2024 Global AI Competition for Youth, securing 22 medals—gold, silver, and bronze—outperforming 129 countries including the United States, India, and the United Kingdom.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), over 18,000 students participated in the competition, with 1,298 Saudi students presenting innovative projects that highlight the Kingdom’s progress in artificial intelligence.
Key Contributors to the Achievement
This success is a result of national initiatives led by the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA), which aims to enhance students’ AI skills and foster technological innovation.
Saudi projects were distributed across four main tracks:
- AI Project Presentations.
- AI-Generated Art.
- Large Language Models (LLMs).
- AI-Generated Videos.
Competition Results
- Saudi Arabia: 22 awards (1st place).
- United States: 20 awards (2nd place).
- India: 5 awards (3rd place).
- Followed by Greece and Canada.
The participation featured students from leading Saudi institutions like Misk Schools, Ajyal Aramco, and NEOM, showcasing the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing its youth in AI.
