The UAE hosted the ninth meeting of the High-Level Steering Group of the UAE-Germany Energy and Climate Partnership, held in Abu Dhabi on January 13, 2025, as part of Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week activities. The meeting reviewed cooperation between the two countries in clean energy, hydrogen, and sustainable fuels.
Strengthening the Strategic Partnership
The meeting was attended by His Excellency Engineer Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, and His Excellency Stefan Wenzel, Parliamentary State Secretary at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, along with senior officials from both countries. Al Olama emphasized the importance of continued cooperation to enhance sustainable energy solutions and achieve the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 goals.
UAE’s Commitment to Accelerating Energy Transition
The meeting focused on joint projects to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy source, improve energy efficiency, and enhance carbon markets and energy security. Al Olama noted that the UAE is working diligently to achieve the National Hydrogen Strategy 2050 through cooperation with international partners like Germany.
Germany Supports Global Energy Transition
For his part, Stefan Wenzel affirmed that cooperation with the UAE promotes the transition to renewable energy while ensuring energy security. He also highlighted the importance of cross-border cooperation and sharing technological innovations to achieve the goals of COP28.
Innovative Energy Solutions in Dialogue Sessions
As part of enhancing bilateral cooperation, the UAE Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure organized the UAE-Germany Energy Day under the theme “Enabling Resilience for Successful Renewable Energy Integration”. The event discussed battery storage solutions and digital innovations that enhance the resilience of energy systems.
